Using the Compressed Zip Folder feature






Microsoft has a pre-installed Compressed Zip Folder feature. If not, there are various packages available for download. Simply, Google or Bing a search for Zip software. Placing your documents in Compressed Zipped folders allows for faster and more secure data transfer. To store your files in a compressed zip folder, please take the following steps.



1. Be sure to place all of the needed documents into a folder (name the folder according to your desires and remembrance).

2. Right click on the folder

3. Stroll down to the Send to option

4. Finally click on Compressed Zip folder

Unmountable Boot Volume

"Unmountable Boot Volume" Win XP

1.When booting up to Win XP you may get a error that reads "Unmountable Boot Volume". This is probably because your boot.ini file is messed up
.
2.You can boot to the XP cd and when you see the Welcome to setup press the letter R
You will get a dos prompt

3.Then type "chkdsk /p" without the quotes and hit enter

4.When that is done type "fixboot" and press enter
5. Select "Y" and press enter at the prompt

6.Then type "exit" and press enter

7.The system will now reboot into Windows if for some reason this does'nt work for you, you can boot to the recovery console like above and...

8.Type "chkdsk /r" then enter

9.When done type "exit" and hit enter.

This will take longer, but the system should boot back into Windows.

Post 6 Using Windows Repair (Must be able to follow directions thoroughly)

1. Step 1- Insert your Windows XP Cd-Rom, then reboot system
2. As Your system reboots, press the f1, f2 , or f12key (this step let's you boot to your Bios setup)
3. Select your CD-ROM drive as your first boot device
4. Save and exit by pressing f10
5. Once your system boots and all files are loaded you should receive a blue screen with an option to repair or Install
6. Press R for Repair.
7. Choose the windows installation you would like to repair ( usually 1)
8. Type the administrator password or just press enter
9. Type help at the prompt
10. There you will find a list of options and you will have to press enter before you can proceed to the next prompt
11. First type FIXMBR( Corrects Master Boot record), enter Y to approve then type FIXBOOT (Corrects boot files) , enter Y to approve
12. Now type Chkdsk ( Scans drive).
13.  Once the scan is done, remove your xp disk and type exit at the prompt and you system will restart.
14. If windows does not start, you will need a technician. :(

Post 5 converting a Wordperfect Doc. into a Word Doc.

1. Simply open the document with Word ( You must have Microsoft Word installed on your System)
2. To save the document, click on Save As
3. And Save as Word Document

Post 3 Removing Viruses and Malware

Step 1. Click the following link to download  Rkill
Step 2. Install Rkill onto your C: Drive
Step 3. If you recieve a yellow bar at the top of your Internet Explorer Bar,  click Download.
Step 4. After the program finishes it's download, Click on the Run Button
Step 5. Next download Malware bytes by clicking this Malwarebytes
Step 6. Follow steps 3 & 4, and please allow the program to recieve it's updates.
Step 7. If you are unable to run this program in the Windows mode, please follow the instructions posted via Post 4

Steps for Starting your Windows System in Safe Mode w/ Networking

1. Restart system, as system restarts press the F8 key intermittently
2. Once in Safe Mode, press the arrow keys to highlight Safemode with Networking
3. You will recieve a message stating that your system is now running in Safemode......, do you want to continue, Press Yes
4. Go to the sites mentioned  in Post 3, If you attempting to remove a Virus or Malware.

                                           *****When you receive this error please take the following steps:

1. Click On the start Button
2. Click on Control Panel( Network Connections) or My Network Places.
3. From the Left Hand side click on view network connections.
4. Right click on Local Area Connections
5. Click on Properties
6. Scroll down and highlight or select, Internet Protocol/TCIP or IPV4 for Vista
7.Click on properties.
8.Then select use the following IP Address
9. Add the following numbers depending on what school you are located;
